How can I change the email address used for BT ID validation?

I just tried to create a BT ID using my account number. It wants to send me a validation message and offers me a choice of two email addresses. One is 15 years out of date and the other is 20 years out of date. I can see no way to request a different form of validation. Has anyone any suggestions?

I should mention that the whole reason I am trying to do this is because I have a fault on my landline and I live in a mobile black-spot. I have been playing SMS tag for over a week now since I wasted a day fruitlessly waiting for a BT engineer to show up as appointed. My sense of humour is starting to fail me...
