How to stabilise sync speed/be put in a banded profile

Good Morning,

I'm having issues with online gaming. Bit of background; In 2015 I ordered BT (80/20 package) and was using the HG612 and BT homehub 3. I was getting around 40/10 speeds with 20 ping rather than the advertised 80/20 but it was fine because I had an amazing connection for online gaming. A few years down the line, an engineer came and removed our star wiring, leaving a new master socket with  no extensions. I started getting speeds of 80/20 with 10 ping however my online gaming became dreadful. Everything just seemed out of sync, bullets wouldnt register when playing cod etc.

For years I've tried getting to the bottom of this. Tried new Isps, modem routers, modem+router, everything, you name it. I noticed that when joining new isps, during the time when the profile was open, gaming was fine but as soon as DLM stabilsed, gaming became awful.

Also on bt wholesale speed test I get 230 download but that doesnt make sense as the max my line is capable of is 90 download. I'm thinking I'm having these online gaming issues because of these sync issues and I remember when I rang BT (and luckily got through to whoever deals with the tech side of things, they said my connection seemed all over the place like the speed was out of sync or whatever)

Is there anyways to put myself in a banded profile where my speed is reduced to like 40mb and ping increased to 20 like before in 2015? I know it sounds ridiculous but I've genuinely tested EVERYTHING and I know this issue has stemmed from the day the engineer changed my wiring so I'm just trying to get it back to how it was.

Thank you 🙂

Re: How to stabilise sync speed/be put in a banded profile

please can you post the stats from your router (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser) and if  HH5 then go to troubleshooting then helpdesk and if HH6/SH2 then advanced settings then technical log information .

Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal

the easiest way to end up in banded profile is to constantly reset your router  however I certainly would not recommend purposely getting connection in a banded profile

enter your phone number and post results  remember to delete number   https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL

Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem
