Bt provide the most awful bb service on this Urban Dorset estate and given their refusal to give me a direct fibre link I make do with the moments of 12mb down to zero. Worse when it rains of course. Thus my mind moves away from the captivity that is bt and its contractor.
I am taken with the idea of (say) Netgear and their various WiFi 6 solutions. I have read much of the stuff in this channel and am not impressed by the level of understanding of the difficulty of people in transition from ancient bt to dubious WiFi 6. I shall make the move, but would like to steer the conversation back to reality.
Hub6 is a combined modem and router; I do use the WiFi but assume this can be turned off on the management screen (?).
I can then connect from Hub6 (modem/router) to new WiFi 6 product (yes?) using ethernet linking cable (yes?) Given that I've already switched off bt old WiFi, I can now move into the present world with my WiFi 6 distribution, be it WiFi or cable (yes?)
WiFi 6 is supposedly supportive of older standards (not too old and update your drivers).
I understand that one can be keep existing user names and passwords if wished (got to think of the hackers and keep the black economy going).
We're all whining here about bt, but the above applies to ALL isps that provide (the allegedly) free connection devices.
Bt have already rolled over and say integrated WiFi 6 is a long way off: can we PLEASE see the right response by giving us the information tools to attach WiFi 6 products downstream from their own AND PERHAPS give a longer working life to the copper in the ground before we all migrate to the web satellites being launched.
