IMPROVING BT'S POOR FIBRE CONNECTION TO RURAL HOME

Hi,

We have fibre connection at a rural property that is very poor and only gives speeds of approx 3-7Mbs.  Is it possible to ask open reach (through BT) to improve the connection?

We have heard of people paying for this and would be prepared to do this, but we cant seem to get any contact number/help  through BT to look into this.

ps satalite, 4g and masts are no good, as the property is in a valley and we have 3 gamers in house!

Many thanks

Re: IMPROVING BT'S POOR FIBRE CONNECTION TO RURAL HOME

You can't 'improve' the connection, you can however get a fault fixed if that is the cause of the slow speed.

If you enter your phone number in the checker https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL and post a screenshot of the result we can see the speed your line is capable of, remember to edit out your number before posting . If you can also post a screenshot of your hub stats, we can see how it compares.

hi Thanks for tour reply .
I’m trying to upload screen shot but it keeps saying it exceeds the maximum allowed size 333kg so won’t let me. Is there another way to show you?

Just reduce the size of the screenshots with Paint or similar. The asked for screenshots as JPGs usually post ok though.

We need the whole screen please. You don't have a fibre connection according to that screenshot.

Re: IMPROVING BT'S POOR FIBRE CONNECTION TO RURAL HOME

As already mentioned, you don’t seem to have ‘fibre’ at all, your recently observed speed was on  ADSL , that is exchange based , not fibre , presumably that would be FTTC/VDSL.

You do have access to FTC but presumably the distance you are from the cab, means that the probable speed would only be around 7Mb.

There is an option for those with very deep pockets, FTTPod, This is fibre to the premises but the network is constructed for you, so you pay for that construction and it can be in the 10’s of thousands, also BAt Consumer don’t offer this particular Openreach product so you would need an ISP that does offer it

Re: IMPROVING BT'S POOR FIBRE CONNECTION TO RURAL HOME

If you get less than 10Mb on 4G as well then you could make an application under the USO however the quote may be as expensive as FTTPoD if they have to build a network just for your property.
