They do suffer from disconnection problems if they are not fully clicked into place. My guess is that since you replaced the front section, the Internet has been fine.
Do you have any other extension sockets or extension wiring connected? They should not have been active once you removed that bottom section.
If you do, can you please confirm that they are connected to the extension terminals on that NTE5C as shown below.

I assume you have clipped the front section back on, making sure that its pushed tightly in, and held in by the side clips?
If you have done that, and you are still getting a noisy line and disconnections, then its possible that the front Mk4 filter is faulty.
The only way you are going to prove that, is with a microfilter plugged into the test socket, and the phone and BT Home hub plugged into the microfilter.
You should have received one or two microfilters with the home hub that was sent by BT.
Which BT Home hub are you using?
