Landline only

Go to solution

Looking for advice. My dad who is 87 is paying an extortionate amount for his BT landline which he never uses.  He doesn't need broadband or TV so just trying to work out how I can reduced his bill from £45 a month which he is paying for nothing. I feel like he is being ripped off.  Thanks in advance

@Mumat2

That is a lot of money for a landline only, are you sure there is no broadband connection as well, even though its not being used?

Regular BT ‘No broadband’ (telephony only ) customers get a reduced line rental , something like £13-£14 a month , then PAYG calls ,  or a paid for call plan on top , if he qualifies ( in receipt of certain Government benefit ) then BT Basic is just over £5 a month which has a small call allowance included.
BT customers without BT broadband we’re written to ages ago and advised of this….are you sure this £45 isn’t quarterly rather than monthly ?

TBH, even ordinary line rental  ( for those that have broadband from another source but still want a BT line ) isn’t anything like £45 a month ( standard line rental is about £22 ), if genuinely paying £45 a month perhaps broadband is on the line ( even if he is unaware of that )

A PAYG mobile would be the cheapest way of being contactable in an emergency, if he ‘never uses’ the phone anyway

Hi thanks for your response. I called them today and they told me about the discount but it had never been applied. All sorted now thank you.
