Can the fibre modem be moved to another room and if so how much does it cost?
The fibre might be long enough if pulled out from where it is and routed to the new location so could I do it myself - I would need to pull off the fibre plug so that the fibre can be pulled through the wall and then push the plug back on at the new location..
Is it that simple or do you require specialist equipment to reterminate the plug?
Yeah sure, just pull the plug off gently and then when ready just push it back down until it makes a dull clicking noise.
I contacted BT today and they can come and move the fibre modem - covid permitting. I was advised that I could try doing it myself but if I damaged anything in the process, I would be responsible for the repair. So I am happy to wait for BT.
BT came and moved the fibre modem. I asked the engineer about "popping off" the connector and doing the move myself. He laughed and later showed me the equipment used for terminating fibre.
But I later had a look at the old connector and it is possible to "pop off" the latch section of the connector which would then allow the cable to be pulled through. The latch (as I call it) can then be simply pushed back into position. Of course if you pull the whole plug off of the end of the fibre I guess there would be a problem re-terminating it.
Did BT advise of any charges for the Engineer visit?
