Good evening all, was hoping someone could advise .
my next door neighbour, house about 20m from my own gets a steady sync of 4.6mb, whereas my line gets 3.2.
for the life of me I can’t understand as to why?
bit of background info-
Neighbour - bt hub 6, 55 attenuation, 6snr, 4.6 down(18 days up)Standard phone socket with dsl filter plugged into faceplate . 2 telephone extensions.
myself - by hub 6, 54 attenuation, 6snr 3.2 down . New line and filtered faceplate fitted by openreach, no extensions , drop line straight into filtered socket. Have never achieved better than 3.4 even beefier new line.
we are connected to the same pole and upon checking bt wholesale with telephone numbers, we are on the same cabinet as well.
so considering we are on the same router, same modulation, same cab and if anything my home wiring is much better (also all new) and my router stats is actually slightly better, how is it possible my next door neighbour has a 30% speed increase on myself?
when you live in the sticks, there’s quite a difference with over a Meg extra sync speed 😊
please can you post the stats from your router (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser) and if HH6/SH2 then advanced settings then technical log information .
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
enter your phone number and post results remember to delete number https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

From your stats you have a great stable connection and with noise margin down at 3.9db the DLM has taken action to reduce you noise margin from normal 6db giving a boost in speed
are you currently using the test socket with a filter to see if that makes any difference ?
with the difference in connection speed it could just be down to one line being better quality than the other
Yes,
I have tried the master before but found no advantage in speed, I’ve no bell wire or extensions so results were pretty much the same.
Thats the only conclusion I could come to, that they are just on a better pair.
Im not complying really, at least my connection is reliable and people get a lot worse, just annoying when you pay the same money and get less speed than someone living right beside you, especially when openreach has no plans to to upgrade this area, too busy providing towns with 1gb speeds! Yet you have to pay the same money as someone getting FTTC getting 10 times the speed.
At least I’ve done all I can on my end, can’t see openreach swapping my pair anytime soon 😊
