Phone only working in master socket and none of the others

Hello. My parents have just moved into a 5 year old house. There are 3 phone sockets downstairs. The master is in the living as that’s the only one we could get the broadband to work.

the other two are in the hallway and the office. The phone will only work in the master socket. Does anyone know why this is?! They want the phone to be in the hallway, not the living room?! Do they need a filter for it to work?

And ideally they’d like the broadband router to be in the office? How can they do this??

thanks

Re: Phone only working in master socket and none of the others

Without seeing how all the sockets are wired it is impossible to speculate where the problem lies. The master socket should be the socket that the external feed connects to. All other sockets should be extension sockets and the responsibility of the customer.

Either post photos of the wiring in each of the sockets so advice can be given or, if not confident, get a local tradesman in to rewire as required.

sounds like your extension socket wiring has been disconnected in the master socket.  you need to take of bottom half and cables should be connected to terminals 2&5 in master and extension.  once connected correctly then you can use a filter in extension in office to get broadband
