Replace BT Smarthub with ASUS RT-AX88U.

I have BT FIBRE 2 Package with BT Smarthub.

Fibre to the Cabinet. 36-50Mbps.

I have a Mastersocket 5C on the wall (One connection port)

Plugged into the Mastersocket is a ADSL filter. There is a broadband RJ11 plugged in the modem port to the RJ11 connection point on the Smarthub (Broadband port).

 

I want to purchase an ASUS RT-AX88U.  This router has a WAN port on the rear (RJ45). 

How would i setup the new router? Will i need to purchase a Modem?

What is the additional cost?

I intend to buy an ASUS RT-AX88U. My setup is Master socket 5C with an ADSL filter plugged in. Then RJ11 broadband cable to my BT Smarthub RJ11 port. I have Fibre to the cabinet.

What was your solution in the end as the ASUS only has a WAN RJ45 port?

I was hoping for a bit more.....
Is there just one type of openreach modem?
what is the latest version?
Are they easy to install?
Im not just going to jump to Ebay straight off. Ive heard Modems have to be setup and activated by BT?

You have heard wrong. The Openreach Huawei Hg612 modems are plug and play, don't pay extra for an unlocked one, it is not required.

The alternative is a Draytek Vigor modem, but there are mixed impressions of those.

You will need to configure the Asus with the generic PPPoE credentials of username homehub@btbroadband.com and password BT when prompted by the setup wizard
