Fell in the (bally) fishpond today ... phone in pocket - slight water ingress - seemed to fire up at first try - then gave me thermometer graphic - now it's just a black screen - only slight water visible in the SIM card tray ... anyone got any suggestions, or is it a buy a new phone job ... ????

You could try removing the battery and place the phone in a tupperware tub filled with uncooked rice. Place the phone in the tub and surround it with the rice. Don't submerge it in the rice. Place a lid on the tub and leave it for preferably 48 hours but at the least over night.
The rice should absorb any water and aid the evaporation process.
Once the time has elapsed, reassemble ad try turning the phone on. If it doesn't work part from the phone being u/s all you have lost is packet of rice.
