Not only that, but if you use the port for a hard drive, it uses smb1

It's just very slow. You also need to enable Smb1 in W10 as it is disabled by default.

If you are not worried about speed, the port works ok, I use it to connect an external hard drive for backups.

How slow are we talking, and is there any hope they will enable SMB2 or anything better?

I was going to use it to connect a hdd to my laptop wirelessly for occasional data transfer / backups, so slow wouldnt be a problem unless its like 50kbps lol

I guess it depends on the number and size of the files being transferred as much as the total size, but somewhere between about 40Mbs and 64Mbs. A 169GB backup took about 8.5Hrs and a 10.5GB about 20 mins.

Pretty sure it is a USB2 port, however as with earlier BT Hubs it will run much faster if you plug in a USB3 drive.
