VOIP

Is VOIP available to retail customers (i.e. the non-business community)? How much does it cost? What is the BT offering's brand name?

With VOIP does one

1 need new handsets?

2 no longer have the expense of land line rental?

3 have technology prerequisites

Where can I find out more info on VOIP?

Thanks

Re: VOIP

BT have digital voice which is being rolled out. Other VOIP providers are already available, just google for them. BT will provide handsets FOC but you will be restricted to using their smart hub.

As both FTTC and FTTP require a line for supply line rental will still be included in your contract price.

Re: VOIP

VOIP , as already stated is ‘sort of’ available with BT, but it’s not something you can necessarily call and order, ‘Digital Voice’ is BT's branded VOIP service and available on some FTTC and FTTP broadband connections.
1. With BT you don’t need new phones , the Smart Hub offers a telephone socket , and anyway , BT offer a phone for free if you want one, and can get DV, other VOIP providers may need extra equipment.
2. Broadband isn’t billed in two parts, ‘line rental’ and broadband, just as broadband , and the cost is whatever it is, there is no line rental ‘saving’ using VOIP instead of standard telephony as you pay for broadband , and whatever medium ( copper pair or fibre optic or a hybrid of both ) that delivers it is included in the broadband price.
3. The technology prerequisite is you need broadband
Search VOIP.
