Video call traffic shaping?

Hey everyone, I’ve been working from home since last year and like many others doing tons of video calls. My connection is usually rock steady (on Wifi, usually around 170/50 down/up), but the moment I start a video call the video looks as if I’m on a dial-up modem, voices cut out and become garbled. Is there traffic shaping employed? Is there a setting in the router I can change to prioritise video calls?

Re: Video call traffic shaping?

Could be a few issues but all routers use what’s called WMM which has 4 options and most don’t allow alteration unless you have a more complex router.

is it just one device that struggles?

Is there any type of QoS on?

If connected via WiFi are you using the 5Ghz channel?

Whats the setup, is it BT or third party router?
