Re: When Was Dolby Atmos first Broadcast on BT Sport?

@DarrenDev  Ah, happy to be corrected on that one. My mistake. My TV and Shield have HDR and they are both from 2019. My BT box arrived after both of them. I stupidly assumed HDR was a standard feature on 4K devices. I only use the BT box for football as there are so few channels in UHD. The Amazon channel on the 4K box is particularly poor picture compared to the Shield and TV apps, the lack of HDR might explain that.

How long has the Pro box been out? I wasn't even aware of it until the chat and complaints team tried to sell it to me.

Should I have been given it in the first place when I was given my 4K box I wonder? As I was given the the HD box originally even though I explained at the time I wanted 4K, I didn't think to ask about HDR though.

Re: When Was Dolby Atmos first Broadcast on BT Sport?

That is why I got it. Apart from a couple of Freeview channels which are better quality than Sky, it is only used for BT Sport.

First selling point of the Pro box is 4K HDR. It's the first HDR capable box provided by BT.

Re: When Was Dolby Atmos first Broadcast on BT Sport?

The BT TV Pro Box was launched in June 2021, and was made available exclusively for top tier subscription packages. It's the first YouView box made exclusively for BT (unlike others which can be purchased standalone, or are available from other TV subscription providers). You will never own the box - it needs to be returned if you cancel your subscription.

The Pro box has hardware that is capable of a lot more than all the other boxes, and there are a lot of new features coming - including support for a lot more UHD content.

Full details of current features here: https://www.bt.com/bt-tv-box

Edit: just found that one company is selling the box online. Surprised by this.

Re: When Was Dolby Atmos first Broadcast on BT Sport?

@DarrenDev  is "not owning" the box applicable to all BT boxes if you are supplied it by BT as part of your package?

I know I had to return the HD box when I EVENTUALLY got given the 4K box.

And going a bit off topic, does the router you have add anything to the TV side of things?

I tried upgrading my BT Smart Hub2 router to a non BT AX one that I bought myself but I could never get the TV working when using it. I've now just got a non modem Nighthawk AX running in AP mode. And try to keep the BT wireless off most of the time. It constantly has problems wirelessly connecting to both my android phone and the wife's iPhone. Wired is fine though.

Do BT do an AX / WiFi 6 router yet?

Re: When Was Dolby Atmos first Broadcast on BT Sport?

Watching Burnley v Watford.

BT Ultimate via 4K Box, is displaying Dolby Atmos but the rear audio is barely audible even with the surround volume turned to max. Which I've never needed to do any any other platform. Haven't even needed the surrounds more than 50% volume.

BT Ultimate on Shield app. Getting just Stereo PCM. Checked Apple TV on the shield and outputting Atmos as expected.

BT sport CH1 HD outputting DD 5.1 and again super low volume on the surrounds.

Re: When Was Dolby Atmos first Broadcast on BT Sport?

@RichieT
Not owning the box applies to all boxes delivered since December 2019.
The BT TV service is only guaranteed when you use the BT provided router - and for the Pro box specifically, it must be a Smart Hub 2 or newer.
BT hasn't released a Hub with Wifi 6 yet, however "Whole Home Wi-Fi 6" was launched a few months ago to add Wifi 6 to any router (on any broadband).

Regarding your Atmos issues - I can't comment on the content itself, however I can confirm that your Shield device reported that it was Atmos capable and was given an Atmos stream, however the video player couldn't detect that your amp was connected so decided to play the stereo stream instead. This is definitely a bug that I'll need to raise with our video player supplier. I'm going to need to get a lot more logs from your setup to be able to raise the bug - would you be willing to help? I'll mean installing a different build of the app that will send me a lot more information.

So the opposite of last time. How are all these devices connected? And how are you switching between them? It's possible that devices are getting confused at things switching around.

Re: When Was Dolby Atmos first Broadcast on BT Sport?

Man Utd v Southampton

13:00 BTTV 4K Box Stereo PCM

13:05 Shield Stereo PCM

13:09 Apple TV app (Shield) Atmos

Connected in the following way:

Shield to Arcana

Arcana HDMI to ARC port on LG TV

Arcana eARC to Sonos Arc Dolby Atmos Soundbar

Shield outputting Atmos if using Apple TV app And BT 4K box outputting Dolby(2.0 and 5.0/5.1) on other channels usually but can only find Stereo PCM channels this morning.

Tried leaving TV on and putting BT 4K box in standby and then on again. Still Stereo PCM.

Happy for you to question my setup but the setup has stayed the same and getting different results.

As I've said a couple of times on here already and hundreds of times to people on the phone. The shield outputs Atmos fine on other apps and BT4K box outputs Atmos, when it works.

I haven't changed the setup and the BTBox isn't outputting Atmos.

I'm happy to try direct setup one more time but that's it.Its a PITA to keep unplugging everything.

I know it's not my setup as I've had Atmos working through all 3 devices . TV, BT4K box and Shield. The only thing that changes is having BT Sport output Dolby Atmos consistently on either Shield or the BT4K box.

And as I've also said before , the BT4K box outputs Dolby Digital 2.0 or 5.0 / 5.1 so I can't see why It would be a switching issue.

It would be far more helpful to actually know if I should be receiving Atmos rather than constantly changing my system setup to just "make sure"

Lots more audio problems with the Liverpool v Leicester match on Thursday, cut outs , black screen, presenters talking off camera etc etc.

Always has been since I've had BT Sport. Can't remember  many problems on Sky channels. Seems the BT Sport OB Unit needs to sort it's engineers out because there are audio problems all the time. Other threads on this forum confirm that.

I received my letter in the post today telling me that Atmos isn't possible on my box. Just to wind me up a bit more!

Re: When Was Dolby Atmos first Broadcast on BT Sport?

@DarrenDev

Happy to help with the Shield logs as long as its easy for me to do.

Might be an idea to wait on that until Nvidia have properly sorted the big update mess they have created.

The Shield seems to be working perfectly for streaming at the moment but might be best to wait until its working 100% again. Who knows what other gremlins its got. That said AppleTV works with Atmos 100% of the time.

Do you know when the next match is that will "should" be Atmos...Champions League? Premier League?
