It would not possible unless you were doing a home move as a BT customer, and you were staying within the same exchange locality.
Your old number would also need to be owned by BT Retail.
A new BT order would automatically be giver a new number, assuming you did not opt for a broadband only connection, which is now possible. In which case you would have no phone number.
