new BT vision Remote doesn't adjust volume or mute

Hi Just set up my new BT vision box and the remote  won't increase ,decrease or mute the volume. I have tried resetting the BT vision Box which didn't do anything and have also followed the You view instructions for resetting the remote which again didn't do anything( Didn't  do as the reset instructions for my remote)
