You're absolutely right - the 11ac Dual-Band Wi-Fi Extender is another option worth considering.
Whereas powerlines use your electrical circuits to transmit your broadband signal, a Wi-Fi Extender takes the Wi-Fi signal directly from the Home Hub, cleans it up a bit, and then pushes it out further than you would get before.
This means they're a great solution for people who want a little bit more signal to get into those hard to reach places. If you have a poor Wi-Fi signal from the Hub though, these are pretty limited unfortunately.
With the 11ac Dual-Band variant, you get a really stable and fast connection so a great solution if you have the latest mobile and tablet-type devices.
