Access via a NOW router

Go to solution

Afternoon all

I have a relative who uses NOW broadband.

Does anyone know if BT Smartphones can access the internet and phone calls free of charge via  NOW routers?

TIA

Dave Johnson

@deejay

If you mean wifi calling, then yes, as that should work on any wifi network provided its not blocked by a firewall. The same goes for normal Internet access.

Which specific device are you referring to?

Afternoon Keith

Thanks for the reply.

The phone will be a Samsung  a12.

The NOW router is whatever they supplied at the time. I'll try and get the details.

Cheers

There is no need to do that, as its not relevant in this case. You have already specified the phone. If it supports wifi calling, then it should work.

Re: Access via a NOW router

Morning Keith

The phone itself supports WiFi access for both calls and data via my BT Hub.

I don't fully understand how the handsets are linked to service providers.

The question really is do NOW allow access to their routers from other provider's equipment.

The easy way to find out is to go and have a look.  I'll do that the next time I visit my relative.

Cheers

Dave

WiFi calling can be used on any WiFi network, you are just connecting to a WiFi signal to make the call rather than a mobile signal. Calls aren't free, they come out of your normal call allowance.

If you just mean accessing the router to browse the internet rather than make calls, then yes, as long as you know the WiFi password the router doesn't know who the phone belongs to.
