Answer phone / Digital Voice

Go to solution

For the last 11 years I have used a BT7600 (base and 3 handsets) Nuisance Call Blocker with answering machine.

Until December 2025 this clearly showed when a voice-mail had been left, and I could listen to a replay on the base. This was very helpful.

Since January this year (possibly coinciding with an upgrade to fibre in December 25) voice-mails can no longer be heard on the base, and no notification that one has been left. Some have been missed.

I understand that BT7600 is too ancient to be really compatible with Digital Voice.

Currently BT3960 looks like the same configuration (base and 3 handsets) but is it compatible with Digital Voice?

If not, is there a different product that would be more suitable?

Thanks for any advice

There is no such thing as incompatibility with DV, to all intents and purposes the interface presented by the green socket on the hub is exactly the same as your previous analogue master socket.

That said, your BT 7600 may have become faulty due to age or alternatively 1571 is answering the calls first. To rectify the latter, ensure the number of rings before answering is fewer on the BT7600 than 1571.

Even at 11 years old, it should be compatible.

I have a quad set Panasonic KX-TGA6624EB with answerphone.  At least 10 years old and been working fine with Digital Voice for two and half years now.

What I have done is set the 1571 in MyBT to answer on 10 rings and set the Panasonic to answer on 5 rings.

Thanks for the advice.

My BT7600 is set for 8 rings, what is the number of rings for 1571? Is that number changeable?

thanks

It can be changed to 10, not sure what the default is.

I believe the default is 7, if memory serves, so there's your problem.

Thanks for your contributions.

On the handset, 1571 delay was set to 'medium'  - I have changed it to 'long'.

Let's see how that works.

Thank you Licquorice and WSH - thanks to your advice re adjusting the number of rings on 1571 the base unit is now recording voicemails as previously.

I don't know how or when the previous settings were changed.

My understanding re the incompatibility of BT 7600 with Digital Voice resulted from advice received via the 150 BT helpdesk.

Anyway, my problem is resolved - thanks again

'Advice' from BT 'helpdesk' is usually best ignored!
