BT Smart Hub 2 and Full Fibre Power Requirements

Hi,

I have just been converted from FTTC/DSL to Full Fibre, and was wondering what the total power requirements are.

The FTTC/DSL setup requires the Smart Hub 2 to use up to 18watts - power supply is 12volts at 1.5amps.

I do not know what the power requirements are for the Optical modem, but the power unit is quite small.

In moving the Smart Hub 2 previously, it was very warm on the bottom of the unit, now with Full Fibre the unit is much cooler.

Is there any gain in terms of power requirements reduction in moving from FTTC/DSL to Full Fibre, or does the Optical modem use just as much power as the DSL modem in the Smart Hub 2 ?

Thanks and regard,

Shadders.

Re: BT Smart Hub 2 and Full Fibre Power Requirements

If memory serves, the spec for the Smart Hub 2 is 14W.  You’ll find with the Smart Hub 2, (and any other wireless enabled router), that the temperature depends a lot on if the wireless is being used, as the Wi-Fi uses quite a bit of power.  I find they tend to run a lot cooler when the Wi-Fi is disabled.

As far as the ONT goes, I have an Adtran 611, quoted at 6W.  I seem to recall the older Nokias were 12W.
