BTTV Box Pro Sound

I have the BTTV Box Pro and have generally been pleased with it. However, one thing that I have never really got on top of (and would welcome some advice on) is the audio output.

I have had the box for some years, and when I first had it I turned on “Surround sound” and used a Sonos Beam soundbar. When I did that the lipsync issue was so bad that I turned off “Surround sound” and never used it again. However, as that was several years ago, there will have been a number of software updates, so perhaps things have improved.

The thing I would like advice on is the best way to go about trying the surround setting again. For example, would it now work with a soundbar like the Sonos Beam (which only has one HDMI “out” connection) or would it work better with a soundbar with an HDMI “in” connection as well? And is there anything else that I need to be aware of?

As will be obvious, I know nothing about these things and so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

In case it makes any difference the TV is a Sony with an ARC port but not an eARC port.
