Elderly person keeps deleting the speed dials

Phone is BT Digital Voice. Not sure the version but is probably two or three old. Happy to buy a new phone if required.

Parent has dementia and keeps deleting the speed dials. So, if speed dial number 1. Is 0123456789 then this number will be replaced with the number 1. Same for all the other speed dials. Not sure how she does it exactly but she does it regularly.

Is there a phone that works with digital voice that allows speed dials to be protected by a PIN number? Or is there another way to do this?

Thank you

Re: Elderly person keeps deleting the speed dials

Hi @AlexPhone24,

Welcome to the BT Community

I am not aware of any handsets that can protect speed dial entries via PIN. If you can find the model of phone that is being used you should be able to find the model and its user guide on our landline guides page. That could let you know how the current handset manages the speed dial to know how it is being deleted. If it is a digital handset its usually just via a digital menu on the phone screen.

Possibly the BT Big Button 200 could be an option. Its Digital voice compatible either by being plugged into the back of the hub or with a digital voice adaptor. Its not protected by a PIN or anything but as per the guide to delete a quick dial number you have to physically press the quick dial button to hear a confirmation tone, then the stored 1-9 number you want to delete, then quick dial again to confirm deletion.

Re: Elderly person keeps deleting the speed dials

Hi Alex_H,

Thanks for your response. I now know how the speed dial is being changed.

If number 1 is pressed but not held long enough to activate speed dial.

If number one is pressed again and held in the hope of activating speed dial.

You then get a message Replace Existing Number

Press number 1 and hold and it replaces the speed dial.

The user does not look at the screen, she just keeps pressing number 1. It seems that this phone interprets any key that is pressed and held as "Yes" and, in this case, the speed dial is changed.

Same applies for all the other speed dial numbers. I will probably just program 1 to 9 with the same speed dial and hope that works.

I had considered the Big Button phone but would need two phones and two adapters and reviews regarding compatibility and reliability were a bit concerning.

Regards

Alex

@AlexPhone24 Thanks for the update, that definitely makes sense as to how it keeps getting deleted then. Hopefully setting it up that way will help moving forward.
