Hello.....I am a daft person who has a bit of a thing about mobiles and therefore doesn't have one. I'm an old lady and I really don't need one. But I now find that I'm blocked out of Ebay because I can't verify that I am who I am by text. Until very recently, there was the facility to be phoned or emailed with a verification code, but now it's text only!!!!! Frankly, that's completely disgraceful, especially since they are able to recognise the laptop in use and have the fingerprint facility as well. But Ebay doesn't bother to fix things that need fixing, and they don't give a flying stuff re my being blocked out by their culpable inadequacy at my expense. I even had one of their dreadful customer service reps actually tell me, in justification of Ebay ridiculousness (with a metaphorical straight face), that it is now actually ILLEGAL not to have a mobile phone in the UK!! As if that could possibly be real! Too stupid for words!
The landline phone I have, though, is a BT premium phone that is theoretically text enabled. It's the second of the same phone I've had, and the earlier one that got broken was able to receive texts. I don't recall who I received texts from, and I certainly never sent one, but I did receive them occasionally, albeit (rather dreadful) garbled automatic voice versions of texts.
I am needing to find out if that verbal text facility would work with Ebay. But on the new (same Premium) phone, all one sees is a message re texts saying "Not Currently Available". And I can't for the life of me work out how to make texts available. I've already wasted hours now (running into days) on this problem already, and life is just too short for this!
Please, someone, tell me how to fix this quickly!
Advice appreciated..............J
Nb....I don't have a BT account. I just have a BT phone. And that was exactly the same as when the audible version of the text facility on the same earlier broken phone did work, albeit inadequately and barely audibly. I would prefer a written text facility if that could be arranged. But I wouldn't ever go back to BT again in any meaningful way otherwise, because they offended too completely disgracefully when I did have a account, to ever be forgiven.

Hi @Jobe
Welcome to the community.
This sounds like a frustrating problem. To be able to use texts on your landline, you'd need a text enabled phone and telephone line.
Have you tried posting on the eBay forum? Their users will be well versed in their security processes and are more likely to be able to help you get access to your eBay account.

Re: How to make my BT text enabled phone actually accept texts?
if you don't have a BT account then which provider supplies your phone service? Have you been moved to a digital phone connection?
