Paragon 500 answerphone

My elderly mother has a Paragon 500 corded answerphone that now says it cannot take messages.  Does anyone know why?  I see someone else asked the same question back in  2012 but the reply just links into BT help page, with no specific way to go from there.  Thanks

Could she have accidentally set it to Answer Only mode?

Or maybe the memory is full & messages need to be deleted.
