WI have Starlink for my primary internet as I get terrible speed with my BT connection. I have been using BT Whole Home with the Starlink for well over a year with no problems. The other night the Whole Home hubs stopped working and were all showing red lights. I’ve tried rebooting everything, changed around the hubs and leads etc. and it still just shows a red light on all the hubs. I’ve connected them to the BT router and they work fine. So I’m thinking has there been an update on Starlink or BT Hubs that has suddenly caused this issue? Has anyone had similar issues?
hi .. had exactly the same issue .. reported to BT and no updates from them, so has to be Starlink ..
i have then hardwired my laptop to the ethernet adaptor on the starlink and that works just fine .. so think has to be a hardware issue with starlink ... their customer service is terrible .. reported this 2 days back .. i'm guessing will have to buy another mesh system .. mine are fairly old BT (larger) discs .. any thoughts from your side? thanks david
I too am awaiting a reply from Starlink having opened a support ticket. I find it strange it happened in the middle of the night-when updates to Starlink occur.
I have the round BT Whole Home discs - bought them about 4 years ago.
It’s very frustrating. I have now reverted to my BT internet that runs at speeds around 1-3mbps as I cannot pick up the WiFi from the Starlink router in most parts of the house.
I am also thinking I will need a new mesh system but have no idea what to buy- or what will work!
hi ..
i've bought a set of TP link Deco mesh units ... around £100 .. arrive from Amazon later today ... read other people use these on line .. who knows .. very annoying .. and Starlink are pretty bad at comms for a comms company, i have to say .. best of luck
Same issue here. I have Starlink + Wholehome discs at home and in another property. I exprienced the same issue at around the same date(last weekend). Only difference is that I made it work at home by just rebooting the discs but I can't make it work at my other property.
I just run a wireshark capture and I can see that DHCP server(starlink router) is not aknowledging the DHCP request from the Disk but is offering addresses to any other client requesting an address.
hi ... i had a response (eventually) from Starlink tech support.
they were less than helpful! suggested i change the settings of the discs (which im not sure you can, and if you can, i dont know how to)
i bought a set of TP-link Deco mesh units ... plugged in and all works .. dont feel too bad as the discs were around 7 years old i think?
they have clearly changed something, but wouldnt admit they had .. suggested that i plugged a laptop directly into the router, whch i did .. and that worked ..
its the discs it doesnt like ..
suggested i bypassed the starlink router, but i pointed out that the BT mesh system needs a router! .. they are frustrating to get messages from .. suspect its a BOT sending the messages ...
for a comms company , they are pretty average at comms!
best of luck
yeah...you can change the settings manually by locating the ip address and then connecting to it (usually by typing the ip address on a web browser) .
That answer is "no good", just someone from customer services with no knowledge of how networks work. The problem sits with their router DHCP server. It has stopped comunicating or accepting requests from the Discs. Maybe they are considering them obsolete...I can see the disc making a request to the broadcast address and then no one answering.
Edit: A cheaper option is just get another router in between the Starlink router and the disc. The intermediary router will give an IP address in another subnet to the discs and will talk to the Starlink router instead.
I got a reply from Starlink. They said my Starlink hardware had failed and they a few sending out a new Gen 3 disc and router!
I too have got some TP link decos now and it is all working perfectly.
Looks like I’ll have to set it all up again when the new Starlink kit arrives😱
This is a known issues, started 23/04/2025
Starlink released an update that stopped the BT Whole Hub system working.
