Hey there @david1381.

Welcome to the Community!

What is the exact digital voice handset that you're using here, and what exactly do you mean by verbally announcing the caller's name?

I have Digital Voice myself, and it's always been a case of the phone showing the number (or name if stored in your contacts) on the display.

At what point would it announce this?

Hi Peter

There is a model number on the bottom of the charging station. This is X42-F81. The same on all 3 charging stations. No other usefull info. I am 95% sure the name of the person calling was verbally anounced as soone as the incoming call connected. We have a Panasonic phone that is connected to our hub2 that DOES still anounce the callers name. also on its 2 remote handsets. I am 81 years old so there IS a possibility I have got things wrong.

Thank you for trying to help

David

Thank @david1381.

I've managed to find the manual for this model which I've linked below, and there's not any mention of this feature I can see:

BT-Essential-Digital-Home-Phone-A-Quick-Start-Guide.pdf

I know in the past BT did offer a service where customers can screen calls by requesting the caller state their name, then you can choose whether or not to accept it based on this.

This isn't a standard feature on Digital Voice, though.

Most modern handsets, including this model, feature caller display which will display the number on the handset instead.

@Peter_W  Where you say "I know in the past BT did offer a service where customers can screen calls by requesting the caller state their name, then you can choose whether or not to accept it based on this. ", that feature is present on handsets with TrueCall built in, such as the BT4600s.

I can confirm that the TrueCall feature on these handsets still works with Digital Voice, as we were switched over to Digital Voice earlier this year and TrueCall continues to challenge any callers not in the handset's list of callers.  We had one such instance only a few days ago, which turned out to be a genuine caller trying to get hold of us.  Scammers don't seem to want (or be able) to respond to the challenge to state who they are, and any pre-recorded messages can't respond to it so they just get stopped in their tracks!   The silence is bliss!  Lol.
