Is it just me, or is BT email the most useless thing on this planet?

I have had BT email for 10 years or more. It never gets an upgrade. Well it did once but it was worse. There are constant bugs. Messages....We are experiencing issues. Logged in too many times, when I haven't. Slow to load on wifi and when roaming, forget it. The email search facility is a joke. I could go on and on. If it wasn't for the email history they hold I'd be off in a flash. In contrast my Gmail accounts just work so well. No wonder BT is haemorrhaging clients. Come on BT for such a large company lets see some improvements.

Re: Is it just me, or is BT email the most useless thing on this planet?

@markfairbrass  To be fair, BT no longer offer email to new customers.

I learned long ago when I was with TalkTalk, that having a ISP email service was far more trouble than it was worth and once I'd left them (nearly two decades ago I think, I went to Outlook which at some point, my email address was hacked and then Gmail and then for the last 6 years, Protonmail. Out of all of the email providers I've ever used, Protonmail has been without doubt, the best of the lot, zero spam, zero problems, access no problem, no ads, no tracking. Yes, I pay for it, but it's almost 2/3's less than the cost of BT's Premium email service.

There are plenty of BT email customers who will undoubtedly disagree with your assessment of BT's email service and as far as they are concerned, BT email doesn't cause them any problems whatsoever, though I'd be inclined to take that with a pinch of salt, especially after reading some of the hundreds of threads on this very forum consistently complaining about the email service. But, as I'll no doubt be reminded by the utter faithful, it probably only affects a tiny minority of customers out of several million apparent customers with email accounts.

I realise for many folks, switching email provider is considered just too much of a hassle, but I've done it more than once. Yes, it's a pita, but once done, it's done. It's also extremely cathartic, getting rid of hundreds of contacts and literally thousands of emails that just become useless after a certain amount of time anyway. Just yesterday (at time of posting), I cleared out almost 600 emails some dating back to 2019. I don't even know myself why I let it get out of hand, but that's life.

I rather suspect the OP is not talking about BT email per se but rather the dire webmail and in-house apps provided by BT.

Were he/she to use a proper mail client rather than the BT offerings I am sure their opinion would be different.

Just for the record check out Proton Mail on Trustpilot. It doesn't score to well there but no doubt the 'utterly faithful' will say it only affects a minority of the users but it goes to show all email services can have their issues.

As regards BTMail I would agree that the experiance of using it is greatly enhanced if you do not use the BT email app and BT webmail instead use a decent email client and decent email app and only use BT webmail if you have to.

I personally wouldn't trust anything I read on Trustpilot at all. Indeed I rarely trust any of the reviews I read on any medium as there's so many fake reviews out there anyway. Too many people out there with too many axes to grind. I can only give my personal opinion relating to Protonmail and I suspect there will be readers out there who think what I'm stating is fake. Is there any truth out there?
