Go to solution

Hi Im emf sensitive my old talk talk hub ethinet connected with WiFi disabled is getting old and contract is ending.

I have a cheaper option offered by BT for broadband and landlines only im concerned about having the super powerful smart hub 2  I would be upgraded to fibre

I have a jrs eco router but im not tech savvy to connect it and xant find anyone who can and understands emf sensitive issues.

Not sure if Faraday products work. Any experts on moving forward safely ?

@Dianasaw  I’m not making light of your situation, but how do you protect yourself from all of the other electronic equipment you come into contact with on a daily basis? Surely you must have measures in place already within your home to protect yourself from emissions from TV, fridge, washing machine etc?

Your router isn’t going to cause you any more issues than what you are already being exposed to on a daily basis such as the microwaves coursing through all of us from mobile telephone masts, mobile phones, vehicles etc. You can’t as you are already aware, put your router in a Faraday box, it simply won’t work. You’re also clearly aware that when your WiFi enabled devices are scanning for your own router signal, unless you live in a remote area with no neighbours, then your router will show all of your nearest neighbours router ID’s, so what mitigation do you have in place to prevent personal exposure from their router signals? You are in an almost impossible situation.

The “super powerful” Smart Hub 2…that’s a joke, right?

Anyway, the Wi-Fi on the Smart Hub 2 (SH2) can be completely turned off.

Are you aware that if you have the Digital Voice phone service it has to go through the SH2?  It is possible to link your own router to the SH2 however.

Still, the signals emitted by a router will be nothing compared to what the human body is subjected to on a daily basis. You’d literally have to be wearing a Faraday suit 24/7 to protect oneself from radiation from the sun, to the police helicopter swooping overhead with their infrared cameras pushing out their own EMF. A domestic router simply isn’t going to be any more of a problem than being sat on the number 12 bus or any modern train carriage with mobile phones and onboard WiFi pumping out electronic signals. I can’t even begin to imagine how EMF sensitive folks manage on a daily basis.

"You can’t as you are already aware, put your router in a Faraday box, it simply won’t work."

If you don't need to connect anything to the router via WiFi and instead have everything connected by ethernet cable, then the router WILL work inside a Faraday box. As others have said, though, if you have a SH2 then WiFi can be turned off completely anyway, so then no need for a Faraday box

@Dianasaw  Sorry to hear you are 'emf sensitive' but if it is such a problem why use WiFi at all? Why not connect the computer directly to the router with an ethernet cable, and switch off Wifi?  You could call in a technician to help with the wiring. Or use a mobile broadband dongle or mobile broadband WiFi device instead. It won't be BT but Vodafone make perfectly good ones and they are very small, so won't be as powerful. If you keep them in a different room and not near where you are working it will help.

I think you are worrying about nothing.

WiFi routers are the least of the OP’s worries. Even the electrical cabling throughout their house will be emitting EMF. As will their smart meters if they have them fitted.

By all means, disable WiFi at router level and just connect via ethernet cable, but that still won’t negate all of the EMF that is constantly there in the background, much of it far worse than any router will throw out.

The OP isn't using WiFi and has no wish to do so.

Re: Any experts on emf sensitive best option

The OP has posted that he/she is sensitive to EMF which is a problem for her and being told that there are many sources of microwaves, radio waves etc which will cause her bigger problems is I'm sure something that she will no doubt have heard many times before and will be well aware of and telling her that comes across as patronising and basically saying she wrong about her problem.

In reply to the actual question asked by the OP  "Any experts on EMF sensitive option" the answer as far as the users of this forum is apparently no, there are no experts regarding EMF on this forum.

As has been pointed out by previous post you can turn off the wifi on the Smarthub 2.

See the following link how to do that.
