BT Fibre "FFTP" - ONT Location...

Hi everyone.

The time has finally arrived where we can have fibre to the house. The only pressing dilemma being where will the ONT be installed. Now, due to the ancient methods still currently being used of clip direct, there's no chance on earth to have the copper cable replaced al the way from the outside wall to where the master socket is. This is an issue. If, like other countries we used conduit then the installation of the ONT wouldn't be a issue at all.

Now, my entire house's network is located in the loft, where all of my equipment is located. This is all neatly installed on an 11U server rack. Account has been taken over a year ago for where the ONT will go so, a spare socket for this purpose is already in place. Also, a 20 mm conduit has been installed from the server rack, down the wall, all the way where my BT connection comes in.

All it needs done is to use the fish line, pull the fibre cable and terminate it where I need it to be. I am also available to the day of the installation and willing to help out.

Unless this can be done, then I can't have fibre as my house being a terraced one, there is simply no way of clipping the cable around the property, as they did to my next door's neighbour house, and took the cable all the way to where they had a socket availed in their lounge. And suffice to say it doesn't look a nice of a job.

If at the point of ordering BT can't promise this to be done, then if they fail to install it, then no costs will be incurred. Now, in all honesty, has anyone on here has had it successfully installed anywhere in the house, where the cable had to be fished out/routed via the loft?

The loft is safely boarded up, with lights and ladder.

Any feedback well appreciated.

Thanks

Albert

BT can't promise anything as regards install, it is out of their hands. All you can do is ask the installer on the day. If he won't install it where you want it then refuse the install.

From what you have described though it would appear an easy install for him/her so is likely to comply with your requirements.

Re: BT Fibre "FFTP" - ONT Location...

As stated , chances are what you have provided will be used by the installer but much depends on that individual and no guarantee can be given by BT ( or any ISP ) .
As it’s only an Ethernet cable between the ONT and router ( or your own kit if that’s what you intend to  use ) if the installer won’t enter your loft ( if it’s not a proper room , building regs, proper staircase, lighting , flooring ) you could always run an Ethernet cable yourself from wherever the ONT can be located , to where you want the router , or cancel the installation on or after the due date ( without FTTP  installed )
