Re: Broadband connectivity to a new self build

Hey! Just wondering if you could advise how you got the this point
? We're having great difficulty getting openreach to supply fibre to the boundary of our property as we are a self build and not technically a developer. How were you able to access the developers portal to register your self build site please? any advise really appreciated thank you!! 🙂

Hi Watertankreno,

Unless they have changed things, you need to use the Developer Portal (registering your single site as requested on the Portal), accept their quote, and take it from there.  They then get in touch (eventually) send out someone to look at the site, then you get an updated quote (although this might not be related to the site visit) which was much higher (double) in my case.  However, as I stated, there was an option to use copper which OR are obliged to install free of charge because the Full Fibre cost was over £2000.  That meant changing the application from Fibre to Copper (OR did this) and then you go through the site visit malarkey again!  Actually the Copper site visit chap was very helpful.  I am going that route because copper will be fast enough for us until Full Fibre is rolled out in our area (for free!) in the next couple of years.  BTW, I was assured that, despite what it says on the portal, that accepting their quote does not oblige you to go through with it.
