Broadband fibre cables

Go to solution

A neighbour had fibre connection made to his house a few days ago by an Openreach technician. The wire runs from a nearby pole across my roof to  my neighbours gable end. Part of the cable run across my roof is less than 2m clearance which is clearly in breach of the ECC Regulations. Why will Openreach not rectify this failure to comply with the regs. I have sent e-mails, made complaint to Openreach and I feel as if I am just being shunted around and that my concern is not understood. It was even suggested that because it is now part of the infrastructure getting the installation rectified would be chargeable - to who? - it’s not my cable and not even my internet connection yet Openreach just don’t get it. Is Ofcom the next step???????? Any advice please.

This is a BT forum and has absolutely no connection with Openreach.

Welcome to the Community, @JamesJ.

As @licquorice has mentioned, these forums are for queries around BT Consumer products and services.

Whilst we use the Openreach infrastructure for our services, they're a separate entity to BT Consumer and don't have any presence here.

You can find all the details you need for how to raise complaints with them directly here, though:

Peter_W thanks for your helpful reply. However I have tried raising a complaint with Openreach using the link you suggested and as yet have had no satisfaction with their reply. In other words I don’t think they are interested hence the reason for trying the BT forum.

Re: Broadband fibre cables

But how do you expect BT to solve an Openreach problem? They are separate companies, there is no more connection between this forum and Openreach as there is between any other provider and Openreach. You wouldn't ask Screwfix to solve a problem with B&Q despite both being part of the Kingfisher group.

Unfortunately, you are totally in the hands of Openreach, I suggest you email their CEO to escalate the complaint. Google will assist in providing the email address as it breaks forum rules to post email addresses.
