I have 2 separate properties, 1 has full fibre and the other is still standard broadband. Both have cctv and since June have stopped me being able to remote view using the app on my phone.
I have had an engineer check the cctv and has advised they are showing offline and said it’s my internet blocking it.
I have switched off the firewall thinking it maybe blocking the site but still cannot connect.
does anyone have any ideas please.
thanks
Your engineer is mistaken, BT don't block CCTV cameras.
How are you accessing the cameras, are the images being uploaded to a website or are you accessing the cameras directly?
If directly, have you configured a DDNS service or are you relying on accessing your public IP address directly?
Your public IP address is dynamic and has possibly changed.
Having said that, if both properties stopped working at the same time it indicates a problem with the CCTV service.
Hi
the CCTV is accessed through a Ddns service and not directly through the public IP address.
I am actually the engineer posting this for my customer, I have removed one of the cctv units and taken it home and plugged it into my sky fibre and it works fine so something in the BT router is blocking it. I’ve also set a fixed IP in the cctv and done some port forwarding but still nothing. And I’ve now turned the firewall off hoping this would solve it but again nothing. Funny how it’s been working on both for over 12months and suddenly they both stop. Can’t quite put my finger on it.
Are you sure the DDNS service is tracking the IP change?
There is no reason for BT to block the cameras and indeed if they did this forum would be swamped with complaints which it isn't.
Have you set the static private IP addresses outside of the DHCP range of the hubs.
Worst case, factory reset the hubs and set up again from scratch.
Hi
Thanks for the reply.
sorry I’m not sure what you mean by tracking the IP??
the static IP that I’ve set is the same as what the router gives it when using DHCP so I’m guessing must be in range.
im going to try and get closer to the router with the cctv unit I have here and use a different Ethernet cable hoping this may work but still doesn’t explain why both went offline around the same time. Failing that I will reset the routers and try again.
That's what a DDNS service does, it tracks the change in the dynamic public IP address of the router.
The static address on the camera needs to be set on the camera itself and outside of the DHCP range of the hub. I.e between 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.63
If I had to guess, I would wonder if the DDNS service subscription has expired and not been renewed.
