Cannot get broadband, neighbours can?

I've just moved into a new home and trying to sort out internet. No major provider can offer me broadband except BT on copper broadband which has real low speeds and is expensive. Literally every other address in my postcode has full fibre access. Openreach also says my property has FTTP.

The house has been empty for some time before I moved in so could that be an issue?

Any advise appreciated

Cheers

Re: Cannot get broadband, neighbours can?

I suspect that, if the house was empty when Openreach installed full fibre to all its neighbours, then they wouldn't have installed it to the empty house and now, unfortunately, they do not consider it to be financially worth their while to come back and install it to just one house.

Re: Cannot get broadband, neighbours can?

It’s only on new sites where Openreach  fit FTTP including the ONT in advance of anyone ordering service , everywhere else the FTTP network basically remains outside (at the top of a pole or in an underground jointbox) and its not until an order received from an ISP do Openreach fit the last part of the network including the ONT in the property.

If this is a ‘new sites’ situation where OR would normally fit an ONT etc before anyone actually moves into a brand new property ( liaising with the developer when the building is ready for occupants rather than the purchaser ) you can get a rare situation where the property is bought by someone as an investment property with no real intention of ever living in it ( so are never at the property , it effectively remains empty after it’s sold ) the keys were handed over to the owner (or their representatives) with no pressure around moving in etc ….if the developer doesn’t advise Openreach this unit is sold until after the keys are no longer with the developer , although OR make a couple of attempts ( speculative visits hoping someone is at home and will allow the installer to fit the ONT etc )  , if no one is available to grant access ( normally done by the developer but they now  no longer own the unit or have any keys ) in these cases OR leave a card saying to contact them within a week or two …but if it were (for example) an investment property owned by a non UK resident this card is not likely to be responded to in the appropriate timeframe. ….eventually the property is removed from OR FTTP addressing so no FTTP order can easily be made after that point .

TBH , the OP doesn’t make it clear if this a new property (newsites/new build ) or is just new to them , plus in the scenario outlined , copper service wouldn’t be available either which suggests it’s not a newsites .

The OP suggests they don’t want to use BT as their supplier anyway , so it not really anything to do with BT or this forum.
