Concerns about broadband speed when moving house

I am due to move house and have 3 'personalised broadband offers', all with considerably lower speeds than I currently enjoy (download speed of 14-23Mb as opposed to current speed of 29-36Mb). BT also say that I can choose to stay on my current (slightly more expensive) broadband package but how do I know if I will retain the current speed? Would I just end up paying more for a maximum of 23Mb? Nothing to help or explain this on the page itself 😞

If you chose to move , that’s you breaking your contract, not every ISP offer a ‘home mover’ service, BT do , obviously if the speed is slower at the new address that’s unfortunate, some may move and get better speed ( that’s good for them ) .

If the speed is unacceptable, you can always not take advantage of the home mover service , and simply quit completely at your old address , paying early termination charges if they are appropriate

from the speeds your are posting you appear to be on FTTC .  the connection speed is very dependant on the distance your home is from the street cabinet and sounds like new home is further from it's street cabinet than you currently are form your current cabinet

is there no option of FTTP - fibre to your home at new address?

Thanks, and yes, I understand that there may well be a difference in speed at the two different addresses but I don't understand why BT provides the option to stay on my current package, pay more, but essentially not get the same speed at the new address?

We're in the countryside so I guess options are more limited.

you can only get as fast as the line at your new home can provide  BT/openreach cannot give you a speed increase if you are to far from the street cabinet.  just need to wait for the area to get FTTP

BT provide the option to move your service to avoid early termination charges , it’s pretty simple , if the speed is unacceptable at the new address , cancel your service at the old address and pay early termination charges (ETC ) ( that’s  if you are within a minimum term ) you are then free to explore other options like satellite broadband or whatever…..as stated some ISP  simply say we don’t do home movers , and you don’t get the option, and you are told as you are not wanting service anymore, the contract is cancelled at the old address and you pay the remaining charges on your account for not completing the minimum term, seems to me VT are offering you a decent alternative to allow you to avoid ETC

If you stay on your current plan you would not be paying any more for a slower service. Your current plan will be for up to the maximum speed everyone can attain, on FTTC that wold be 55mb on fibre1 or 80mb on fibre 2. The speed you can get is dependant on you line quality etc. You won't be paying any different unless the new address would only supple fibre 1 speeds and you were getting fibre 2 speeds priviously. That said if they offer a cheaper price then take it.
