Digital upgrade

Go to solution

BT want to install full fibre. My concern is that according to their video The Ont and.hub need to be plugged in 2 sockets side by side.  But I need one of the sockets for a plug extension for my washing machine.

Will.it be ok for the ONT to be plugged into the extension lead (.or the hub) ?

Yes I would probably plug ONT into socket and hub into extension

Bear in mind the ONT may not be near where your existing master socket is currently located as master will no longer be needed

Thanks. At the moment I have  the hub plugged into a TP link. ( my walls are 2 ft thick so I need this)  Would  plugging the ONT into the extension  lead right next to the hub would be ok too?

You could connect ONT and hub to the same extension .  As I said bear in mind ONT will probably not be where the current  master socket is situated

You can even connect the hub to the ONT using the TP Link (a brand by the way, not a technology) powerline adapters or by up to 100 metres of Ethernet cable.

Thanks Sorry if I sound stupid but I thought the ONT is connected to where the line enters the house. At the moment, that is where my hub is located .

I appreciate your comments

Re: Digital upgrade

It is, but the entry point of the fibre is not necessarily where the entry point of your copperline is. The location can be negotiated with the Openreach engineer within what is reasonably possible if you wish to have it sited elsewhere.

As previously stated, the ONT and hub don't necessarily need to be co-located either.

Thank you.  That's very useful to know. The little video from BT made it look that the 2 had to be side by side
