Existing BT customer switching from Fibre 1 to full Fibre 900mbps - sent an EE branded Hub SH20A

I know BT and EE are part of the same group, but my existing contract (Fibre 1 copper from cabinet) is with the 'BT' brand and details on my upcoming move 24 month full fibre 900mbps contract are branded 'BT' on email correspondence.

I have just been sent an EE branded hub SH20a in advance of the openreach engineer visit - from checking the hub model number, this appears to be an older  wi-fi 5 system model.

Not sure why I have received an EE branded Hub - and if BT are now sending EE hardware, why it wasn't a newer Sh31b wi-fi 6 model? (I understand that the wi-fi 7 carry an additional monthly charge).

If anyone has had a similar experience could you please share your feedback if you queried with BT? Thank you

Re: Existing BT customer switching from Fibre 1 to full Fibre 900mbps - sent an EE branded Hub SH20A

Last year, a neighbour of my in-laws received a refurbished SmartHub 1 when switching from a competitor to ADSL with BT.  This has recently been replaced with what appears to be a refurbished SmartHub 2, to enable them to be switched to Digital Voice.

We don't know BT's reasoning for these things, but it does look like they sometimes clear out old stock.

I only learn by making mistakes and owning up to them - boy do I learn a lot!

Re: Existing BT customer switching from Fibre 1 to full Fibre 900mbps - sent an EE branded Hub SH20A

I had a Smart Hub 1 on FTTC and when I upgraded through BT to FTTC they sent me an EE smart hub which is the BT equivalent of a Smart Hub 2. I think the BT Smart Hub 2 has been discontinued hence they are sending out the EE equivalent. BT have not released a new residential hub since the Smart Hub 2. BT were going to migrate all their broadband residential customers to EE eventually but have since done a U-turn due to a new CEO and the strong BT brand name. I am still using my BT Smart hub 2 that I purchased off eBay as reports are it is more stable than the EE smart hub. I was disappointed I was not given the EE smart hub plus which is WiFi 6 enabled but it it was it is.

Thank you both for your replies. I have to say that the EE hub feels very plastic and "cheap" in terms of visual quality and build, and it's nothing like the previous BT hubs.

When I was taking out a TNT sports subscription for this seasons football games at end of last year (as it was cheaper that via Sky), BT mentioned that they anticipated dropping the BT brand for residential customers, with everyone eventually transitioning to EE-branded broadband contracts. However, during the call for the current renewal, they stated that both residential brands would likely be retained.

Won’t let me edit my post above but I meant when I upgraded from FTTC to FTTP!
