Hello,
We are currently on FTTC and if I look at the Openreach build map it states we are part of their future build with the first properties being able to sign up for FTTP within 12 months (it’s been saying this for a year). CityFibre seem to be about to start some work about a mile or so away from the property but no idea if that’s anything to do with our village.
The real question is, the fibre that goes to the green cabinet in the village (near my property) am I right in thinking has no bearing on getting me FTTP ? So does the FTTP cable come along the same ducting as the fibre cable already laid to the cabinet but not use it in anyway?
A BT engineer who was here doing some work said it wont be that much of an issue to get FTTP as we already have the cable to the cabinet but I’m now thinking that this won’t help much.
I’m also hoping that having Cityfibre doing some work won’t affect Openreach maybe starting a build as I’m locked into BT for another year and I know that BT don’t use Cityfibres network.
Thanks in advance.
FTTP does not come from street cabinet so having FTTC makes no difference to when FTTP will become available. City Fibre installations should not affect the provision of FTTP as openreach use there on infrastructure
FTTC being in the area has absolutely no bearing on whether Openreach will or won’t roll out FTTP there.
Also there is little to no chance they’d use the existing Fibre Cables that were put in for FTTC as fibre cables to RDSLAMS are usually a 4 Blown Fibre Bundle so there is no capacity on it for FTTP.
What determines Openreach building FTTP in an area purely comes down to cost.
Also having 1, 2, 3 or even half a dozen Alt Nets in the area won’t stop them building because as I’ve said before, Openreach/BT are not a Social Service, they’re a Business whose sole purpose is to make money. Just in the same way Tesco wouldn’t not build a store in your Town just because it already has an ASDA and a Lidl.
