FTTH question

Hi Guys. So yesterday I had full fibre fitted to the house but I noted that the cable from the white box (excuse my ignorance) to the smart hub is an (old) copper type cable? Isnt that detracting from the possible performance?

Its a standard copper Ethernet cable, it will have no effect on the speed.

Thanks for the answer keith but please excuse my ignorance, wouldnt an optical fibre ethernet cable work better? I dont really know what to expect and I'm pretty sure the speed I now have is more than adequate, the smart hub is only 2 feet from the (white box)!

No, it wouldn't. For up to 100metres,  copper Ethernet is good for 1Gb the same speed as the ONT is getting from line.

The hub doesn't have an optical port.

That would need an optical interface on the smart hub 2. Unfortunately, optical connections are very fussy about the slightest amount of dust, so any physical disconnections made by the end user, are likely to result in the connection failing.

Ethernet cabling is good up to 1000mbs and beyond, and the connections are very durable, provided the retaining clips are not damaged.
