Re: FTTP install and front steps

The point is I don’t have any expectations regarding 4.

Another poster said he has an expectation of me though. Ie that I should ethically cancel my order right now if there is merely a chance that I may refuse permission to dig. Even though this would depend on the exact proposal of work when the team attend.

My point 4 is a hypothetical response as to why I have no such ethical obligation to cancel my order because he thinks I should and why I am not ‘entitled’. If BT corporation and/or Openreach really need to secure permission in general before workers attend in order to save £ they should do that, that’s their mistake nothing to do with my morals. They have lawyers and contracts and T&Cs to take care of it if it was really an issue.

Re: FTTP install and front steps

@rhomb To be fair, this is just a customer to customer forum, it isn’t as if BT are going to answer you. All you’ll get is ‘advice’ from other forum members, some of it useful, some of it perhaps not. Therefore posting your thoughts on anything here is effectively pointless as it goes nowhere except it invites others to possibly counteract everything you state. No one contributing here is going to be able to alter any of your circumstances.

I wish you well with whatever happens with your future installation.

Yes I know, good point. I rose to the bait but I do enjoy it a bit too.

Re: FTTP install and front steps

I still am to be convinced that anything contentious being said here , all along it’s been pointed out you are the final arbiter no one can force your hand , but the point remains, if you get a civils team turn up to excavate your garden , clearly you can’t say you were not aware of that , only you know the surfaces and layout of your garden to the curtilage, and presumably can make a guess to the likely route  from the footpath the duct currently takes and any convenient place to intercept it and lay a new duct to the house away from the step ,

if at the end of this process you get service because the work needed was manageable , relatively unobtrusive and you agreed to it , that’s great , if (and it never was stated more forcefully than that ) you suspect that the work needed will be unacceptable (a reasonable assumption given your question regarding staying on copper ) then even if you don’t care if the supplier wastes  time and effort, you will be also wasting your own time , the intention was only ever to point this out .

Re: FTTP install and front steps

@Kimberlin   I’m a retired IT tech and I post on a lot of forums.  (Well, I did.  Voda, Virgin, Talk-Talk…all gone now.  And Sky, well let’s just say the average Sky post today seems to consist of something like “Bradband not woking”  and leave it at that).

Even as a retired tech, I don’t know it all by any means and this forum, to be fair to it, is by far the best for technical know-how.  It’s just a shame people get a bit frustrated and overly abrupt at times.

I’m both surprised and not surprised they won’t try to shift that top right slab, as the key to it is whether that exposed the duct underneath but to give them their due, iniltous and 36ULW have forgotten more in this area than I know, so I would respect their opinion.

@rhomb  I hope you get sorted.  Full Fibre is worth the effort, (and it takes a lot to impress me), so I'd keep pursuing it if I were you.  Good luck.
