Not sure what you mean by a power extender….if you mean a power line type adapter to connect the ONT to the router that is sited away from the ONT, via the mains wiring , rather than the usual RJ45 type lead, it should work , although it could compromise the speed , but you would still need one power outlet for the ONT .
Sorry as in AC plug adapter/extender to get more sockets.
OpenReach paid a surprise visit this evening and have done part 1 of getting to the socket and was easy enough anyway, so should be fine for the main event - he talked through where it would most likely go/could go.
Does the old BT master socket get removed completely or is it just left redundant now?
It is left redundant for now. You could always ask the installer to remove it or do so yourself.
