Hi, has anyone made use of any free upgrade offer?
As its a speed upgrade, does anyone know if there will be , or has anyone had any issues, of losing access, when they upgrade from one speed to another? We can't afford any downtime.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Regards
Ian

Re: BT offer to increase speeds
In my email there is no reference to paying 500mbs at a later date or on recontract.
The email says “As a thanks for being with us, you'll get a speed boost from 150Mb to 500Mb – for free” and “Plus, there’s no change to your contract either. Just a little speed boost to make sure you’re getting a brilliant experience.”
I read the email a number of times before taking the offer up because I didn’t believe it!!!

Hi,
It came through their email and then when i logged into my account it was in the upgrade options bit.
Our 24 months ends next September, with the usual April price rise, it will be us paying the same for 150 price per month , or 500 being the same future price according to the small print.
We dont need 500 or 425, but seems like a no brainer. Just worried there will be an issue when they switch over, or up the gain as they do at the exchange.
Thanks, i have edited my original post.
The speed increase is done remotely, there shouldn’t even be any need to do a hub reset and there isn’t usually any downtime.
What you do need to do however, is check the small print to see if there are any conditions attached, such as whether you will be committing yourself to a new two year contract. Don’t forget also, that there will be the usual end of March £4 increase whatever contract you’re on.
One question? How do you normally get on with 150mbps? Do you need to upgrade your speed?
BT like all ISP’s are extremely good at the marketing lure. Decide carefully if you actually need the ‘upgrade’.
Thanks for the response.
Sadly the cynic in me nowadays thought it was too good to be true, but its no extension on the contract and yes it does say the price increase for the offer and yes i would have the same increase anyway, thats why i;m thinking, why not do it.
As noted we dont need the extra speed, i guess they hope to catch us out with a big out of contract revert to higher price next September, but we set ourselves reminders.
The small print was actually quite small on this offer, thats why i'm trying to understand if there will be a time lag for switching over.
Hi,
Literally the same email we had.
I cant see a pitfall yet, just want to know if there will be a time lag on the upgrade switchover.
Getting old and cynical, Lol

I edited my OP in the thread as i found out i am unlikely to qualify for the boost being a new customer.
@TheScoobster Having just checked a well known switching site (at time of posting) BT it seems are currently offering brand new customers 500mbps for £27.99 until March 27 (no phone or other add ons), so if you were out of contact for example and wanted to renegotiate with BT, you should be fighting for that sort of price. So that almost £40 a month when you come to renewal, isn’t so great.
EE as it happens (still BT whichever way you cream and jam the scone) is offering 900mbps for new customers at £26.99 a month until March 27.
Just to point out, you won’t get new customer switching deals from BT to EE or vice versa.
Seems quite generous to offer a speed increase without any extra commitment from you by way of an increased minimum term , but as far as upping the speed , it’s just a command to ‘tell’ your ONT to interact faster with the headend , no reason this affects service (apart from increasing your speed) , things like this are often done on an overnight ‘batch’ run of instructions, so you get up one morning to the increased speed
