Hi All,
For some while I’ve been having problems with slow loading of internet pages; it seems to be more on sites like Facebook, Instagram and Amazon (maybe due to the number of images to load?) but not exclusively these sites. I use Firefox but experience similar on Edge too.
My Desktop PC is connected via ethernet cable direct to the router (BT Home Hub) and I’m on the Full Fibre package of 900Mbps/110Mbps since October 2024.
I did contact BT who found no problems at the time but said it was hard to diagnose if intermittent. Unfortunately, I had little faith in the representative I was speaking to as she kept suggesting I try a WiFi extender even though I explained I was connecting via Ethernet cable...
When I’ve experienced slow loading of pages, I’ve ran Speedtest.net which was still showing around 900+/100+ speeds. When I’ve gone into ‘Diagnose Network problems’ from the Internet icon in system tray, sometimes it says ‘you’re connected to the internet. We didn’t find any problems with your network’ whereas as sometimes it says ‘you’re connected to the internet. The network connection quality may be low’. It will then suggest resetting the network adaptor which usually cures the problem at least for a while.
I’ve tried two different ethernet cables but this made no difference.
I’ve also tried disconnecting the ethernet cable and connecting via WiFi which initially seemed to help a bit or so I thought but I’ve since had similar problems too – again sometimes ‘Diagnose Network problems’ showed ‘The network connection quality may be low’ and again a reset of the network adaptor temporarily fixed the issue.
Occasionally, all sites do load instantly – I don’t know why!
Interestingly, when I connect a laptop via WiFi, despite the much lower connection speed, the same set of tabs in Firefox load almost instantly.
So, I really don’t know if the issue is related to my internet connection from BT or if I should be concerned it could be hardware-related; maybe the network adaptor or even the GPU although it is a new PC.
I've done the usual things; disabling any add-ons, clearing caches etc.Any ideas?
Solved! Go to Solution.
do you have an antivirus checker or even windows itself checking your browsing for any problems which may be slowing down you loading?
Hi,
Just Microsoft 'Windows Security' which shows no action required. I occasionally run a scan with the free version of Malwarebytes - just ran a scan and 'no items detected'
Thanks
Les
Make sure your not doing a One-Drive full back up, after an update this seems to have turned in automatically and can cause issues like this.
Thanks guys for your help 👍 However, I think I've found what the problem was! I found this post by chance whilst Googling last night:
"PC came with software called the "Gigabyte Control Center" and inside that are several drivers and programs. One of them is called "cFosSpeed" and is supposed to improve internet performance for gaming. as soon as I deleted that program Facebook, Amazon and other slow websites went back to normal"
I did as suggested and uninstalled 'cFosSpeed' and that seems to have done the trick! Weird ...
