Gaming on PC causes connection to intermitently shut down?

Hi all,

Would be greatly appreciative of any advice.

I recently moved to BT as gaming is a passion and noticed that in the last week or so when playing WoW my internet would somehow cut off in random spikes. The following problems would occur:

1) in the actual game I would get intermittent connection issues, not a frank disconnect but errors that implied the server of the game itself was having errors. This is distinct to sheer lag or lack of connection completely.

2) simultaneously I would not be able to access any website, however i could search google and come up with a results page. Any page of a different website would not work.

3) things like discord and various other game launchers would frankly disconnect and give a "no internet connection" error.

This situation was bizarre in the sense that waiting 10 mins, or 2 hours made no difference. Disconnecting my ethernet cable made no difference, as well as then trying to test wifi -> this also made no difference. Strangely resetting my PC and starting again would make my internet work every time. However as soon I played WoW for a few minutes the same "pseudo" internet disconnection would occur.

Does anyone have any idea why this might be?! Never countered it before.

Thank you everyone

Re: Gaming on PC causes connection to intermitently shut down?

Welcome to the Community, @jomoroon.

Whilst I don't play WoW, I use my BT connection for gaming most nights, including for Discord, and haven't noticed any of the issues you've described here.

As a first troubleshooting step, can you please unplug your hub at the wall and leave it for at least 30 minutes?

On startup it will run some checks on your hub, and also assign you a new IP just in case Blizzard's servers are having issues with your current one.
