Hi,
I'm going to have an BT engineer visit soon to install FTTP to my house. I have watched videos online and saw that the "Openreach modem (ONT)" requires to be plugged into the mains. I have a preference of where I would like the Openreach modem, and it isn't too far away from the mains wall socket (I'd prefer not to use an extension)
Roughly how long is the normal power lead for the openreach modem, so I can get things prepperd...or would the engineer have different lengths of cables?
believe the power supply lead is around 1.5 meters (for Nokia ONT)
If the cable from the Power supply to the ONT is not long enough, bear in mind that you can extend that cable you don't have to use a mains extension lead.
Do you mean using something like this "2.1mm x 5.5mm DC Power Male to Female 5 meter 12 Volt Power Extension Cable" (I found on Amazon)
Yes, though how long you can still get enough power through I don't know, but they do come in shorter lengths.
I just ordered a 3m long, 5.5 x 2.5mm lead from Amazon today for £4.04
Did the extension you ordered work? because i'm trying to decider whether I need to buy the 5.5mm x 2.1mm or the 5.5 x 2.5mm lead
I tested the Amazon extension cable this morning and it works fine.
Using a test meter there was a drop of 0.01 volts.
