I have 2 registered ONT's - I want to cancel one of them

I am really struggling to find service providers that can cope with having two ONT's connected to the same property.  We have two, but one is now redundant (and the provision of broadband by that service provider was cancelled about a year ago).  I would like to get all trace of that redundant ONT removed from our properties records so that service providers availability searches start working again. Any ideas how I even go about this?  For info - I have checked with openreach previously, and they report 'On reviewing our records I can see that there is availability for a new ONT, for service against an existing ONT and takeover of a service.' and I have also checked my neighbours addresses and they can all order full fibre. I also have full fibre with BT currently, but I'm coming to the end of my contract and looking at options - but I'm struggling. Thanks!

Re: I have 2 registered ONT's - I want to cancel one of them

Not sure what the problem that affects BT is , if the address has two ONTs because it once had two separate services , why is that a BT problem ?
As you state you are struggling to find a new ISP that can deal with this fairly unusual situation, that’s not really anything to do with BT , and I doubt Openreach , having had the expense of providing two ONT’s will be willing to remove the currently redundant one , either physically or in just in data .
Each Openreach ONT has a unique serial number , if you want your new provider to start using a particular ONT ,  you tell the new ISP the serial number of the appropriate ONT , presumably it’s the BT service you want another ISP to take over rather than the redundant ONT ,  as this query is about an alternative ISP to BT , that  in itself disqualifies the subject on this BT forum .

It’s whoever you select as the new ISP that you need to be having a conversation with , not BT , they should be selecting the appropriate ONT to start their service on , and if they have a choice of two , anyone knowing what they are doing should be able to select the appropriate ONT from the serial number , if the ISP you have tried so far are unable to do this , that’s not really anything BT can assist you with , keep trying until you find a competent one .

You're not wrong in what you say, but like most people, I tend to look at the current market prices when my contract is coming to an end.  That has proven difficult with my the fibre setup at this house and the BT forum is full of very knowledgeable and helpful contributors, so I asked the question.

Anyway, I couldn't get anywhere with the likes of Now, Sky, Vodafone etc, but EE came up trumps, thanks to a very helpful BT retentions advisor.

An optical network terminal (ONT) is a device that converts light signals from fiber optic cables into electrical signals that devices like computers and phones can use. It's a key part of fiber-optic broadband networks that deliver high-speed internet to homes and businesses

Re: I have 2 registered ONT's - I want to cancel one of them

One thing that hasn't been revealed about this is what problem is it causing. I cannot see a thing. The redundant ONT is stated as from being from another proveder (psumeably an AltNet). It would have no bearing on what Openreach or the ISP's that use them can supply. If you want the AltNet's ONT removed then ask them it has nothing to with Openreach.

You can ordder a service from BT now without any poblem (or any other OR sevice provider).

Re: I have 2 registered ONT's - I want to cancel one of them

Both ONT's were provisioned by Openreach - one is used for typical domestic / retail purposes.  The other had been provisioned for business use only, but is redundant and not required.  The problem this causes is only when I come to contract renewal - a surprisingly large number of service providers cannot cope with 2 ONT's at the same property (e.g. Vodafone, Sky of the larger ones) and no-one chooses to potentially pay a couple of hundred pounds more than they need to do so.  Interestingly, Onestream is about the only provider that asks which ONT is to be used for the provision of service, but wrongly or rightly, I see them as the ryanair of broadband and would prefer not to use them.  Also - this time around, BT have moved me on to a good deal with EE through retentions.

As has been pointed out, quite fairly, it isn't openreach's problem - it's only mine, and it only affects me every couple of years.  The only thing is, I don't know how to get past this issue - the only thing I could think of, was to find a way for openreach to remove the record of the second, redundant ONT from their systems, so that other service providers availability checkers would work 'normally'.  The reason for asking the question on this forum - is because the level of knowledge in this community is probably the best I know about, especially for openreach technologies.
