No matter what I try my internet speed won't go above 1oomb on my gamin pc and my laptop.
I've tried changing settings and following online instructions on how to allow upto 1gb but nothing works.
I have bought faster dongles and cables again no joy
TODAY ITS AT 42MB UPLOAD 17 DOWENLOAD 🤬
Please help!
You are a bit vague on where and how you are measuring this but to get 1Gb/s you need all 8 wires connected and working. One bad contact will drop it to 100Mb
If you’ve changed the cables and therefore reseated them, it is possible one of the ports is dirty or actually defective. It might be worth trying cleaning the pins in the port sockets, as I’ve known dirty pins to cause a drop to 100Mb/s before.
If you have any intermediate switches, it might also be worth restarting those, as they can screw up the auto-negotiation at times, especially if the only thing they see when they start is something on the network with just a 100Mb NIC and nothing else.
Hi,
The bt app always says max speed on test, not the case.
Measuring on speedtest.net as the bt app always says max speed, but it is not the case as that is speed to my phone.
No changes have been made to router or setup since installed (fiber) about 18 minths ago.
Ive tried a cable instead of wifi dongle.
I've tried a new 1gb dongle.
I've tried the same on my laptop but speeds won't go above 100mb.
I've tried all the help pages on the web to change settings to 1gb.
I've tried pc format.
My pc is in the same room as my router and about 10ft away.
I've tried bt chat but that just shutdown and dissapeared.
BT are only responsible for the speed to their hub. They are not responsible for anything beyond that, as that is down to your network setup and so your responsibility. That is why their app only report the speed at the hub.
I assume you’ve restarted the hub? It might sound like a joke but switch it off and switch back on again clears a remarkable number of minor one-off faults.
I take it the laptop is fairly new? A very old one may well have just a 100Mb network card.
The cable has to be cat 5e or above for gigabit speeds. The old cat 5 and below are obsolete.
What brand of PC is it? Is it completely up to date on drivers?
What WiFi card is installed?
Not much good to you, but as an example my laptop on WiFi, the Aggregated link speed receive/transmit is 1201/961 mbps but that is with a WiFi6E AX211 160Mhz network card installed.
Using a TP-Link AC1300 Nano dongle, it's 866/866 mbps
Connected via Cat7 cable, it's 1201/1201 mbps.
Do as suggested and reboot your router.
Factory reset-Rebooted router.
Done all that
Pc all upto date and drivers are fpr everything, done a windows repair reset...
Bought dongles tried cables messed with link speed and duplex settings etc.
Today I was only getting 40mb so to me this sounds like a iffy router..
Could I be right?
I can’t see the picture yet. It’s not been released from moderation. I take it it's a Smart Hub 2?
You could be right. A faulty Smart Hub is not unheard of. You could have a go at talking customer support into sending you a replacement or they’re cheap enough to buy on Amazon.
What does the MyBT app say the speed is? There’ll be two results displayed. One shows speed to the hub. The other shows speed to the device that’s running the app.
