I've got a iMac and and macbook pro connected to home hub 2 - and we're on fibre to the house. Usually download speed will be around 50 - 200 mbps but every couple of minutes web pages freeze and it drops to under 0.1 mbps. I've restarted the router, had bt engineer out, run through a tonne of forum advice on mac settings but to no avail. I don't seem to have the same problem on my iphone - just on the macs. Is it possible that there is some configuration conflict between the home hub 2 and the macs? Anybody have any similar experiences? I'm in the middle of an IT project for a client and it's driving me round the bend.
Welcome to the Community, @richardofclapton.
Just to be sure with this one, are your Macs connected via WiFi or Ethernet, and have you tried any alternative connection methods?
Also if it's a wired connection you're using, have you checked to make sure the cable you're using is at least Cat5e?
Peter
Thanks Peter. Yes, same problem when connected via ethernet cable- and it was a Cat5e cable. Thank you.
Cheers @richardofclapton, so is this identical over both Ethernet and WiFi?
Peter
Yes that's right. Same issue both on wifi and on ethernet
@richardofclapton Thanks for confirming, it does sound a strange issue, I am not aware of any compatibility issues between Mac devices and the router. You mention your iPhone doesn't have issues, I presume you have other devices connected as well and they don't experience these issues?
What sort of settings have you been changing beforehand? I know some similar connection issues on other devices have sometimes been fixed with changing DNS and disabling IPV6 worth a try if you have not already done so.
If the connection is working fine on other devices and its just these two devices, if you have not done so already probably worth reaching out on the Apple Community and contacting Apple support as they may be able to provide more specific Mac instructions to try.
