Invisilight fibre

I got home last night  after two weeks, and noticed all the doors on my floor in my apartment block had small white boxes mounted above them, branded "ofs", which is apparently "Invisilight", the system Openreach are opting for to install fibre in our block.

I'm guessing the full installation, connection to this module, and from this module to my premises will only happen as and when I want it, and also on the availability of a cabinet space ("hen's teeth" spring's to mind). Alternatively, can we expect a new cabinet to be installed, as our block is one of 3 or four (two of the addresses are combined in one block), totalling in excess of 100 apartments. BT broadband Wholesale makes no mention of the installation, and when I check my upgrade options, it previously offered me copper broadband at a cost of more than I'm paying just now. This morning it comes back with nothing, and there's no mention of any works anywhere.

Anyone got any insight into this scenario?

Re: Invisilight fibre

Yes the installation will take place as and when you request it.

There are no cabinets involved. A cable is taken from that “breakout box” into your unit.

Re: Invisilight fibre

FTTP doesn't come from the cabinet.

Re: Invisilight fibre

Is it definitely Openreach equipment ?, if it is , then ( as already stated ) when you order the final part connection is made , if it’s not yet ready to order , you will have to wait until it is, as far as capacity, OR work on the basis of one connection per flat/apartments so you have no reason to worry about that , the splitters that OR use are 1/32 , although they tend to only use 30 maximum, so if the development has in excess of 100 units that is 4 splitters , but OR don’t have to wait until the last apartment  is pre fitted before offering service to anyone , some apartments/ flats will show FTTP as available before others.

As pre fitting MDU’s  like this can only be done with the building management/owner/ freeholder consent, then your building management presumably should be in a position to give more info on timescales etc.

Re: Invisilight fibre

There's a handwritten note on a communal noticeboard (I didn't see it when I came in) which says Openreach are working over the next few days, and a resident I spoke to confirmed this as well. We didn't get any advance notice from either Openreach, or our building manager, but I know some of the residents of the other blocks have been pushing for fibre for some time. The first reference (Google) to Invisilight and Openreach appears about 2019, but there's nothing more recent. The building manger's website doesn't make an reference to it, but obviously, they must be informed.

Thanks all above for the info. Unfortunately it adds to my other dilemmas, as I'm working away from home just now, with the possiibility of returning to work from home, ideally transferring my existing Virgin broadband contract, but they won't supply to my home address, and don't do Invisilight. Ideally, I'd just get a new home, but that's another can of worms.

Re: Invisilight fibre

The ofs invisilight EZ-Bend fibre is pretty cool. Got it here with an AltNet and you wouldn't notice it unless you looked closely.

Re: Invisilight fibre

I Googled it, and it looks to be a pretty smart solution, although I'm not convinced it's ideal for all situations. We've already go discrete internal runs with telephone, electric and satellite cables going into all apartments, why not just use those? I agree it's a very simple and cost effective method, but I don't see it would cost much more to just use the existing ducts, which run parallel anyway.

Re: Invisilight fibre

It’s sounds like a typical Hyperoptic set up as they specialise in MDU settings and they use InvisiLight kit.
