Leaving adeauet space to fir and connect an ONT

In anticipation of an upgrade to FTTP in due course, I've identified a location for the ONT close to the existing NTE5. Just below that proposed spot there is some 16x16mm plastic conduit running along the top of the skirting-board which carries existing network cables etc. 

I want to keep the ONT as low down on the wall as possible, but it occurs to me that the ONT may not project far enough from the wall to allow the FT and RJ45 connectors to be inserted/removed easily into the sockets at the bottom of the ONT if it is too close to the conduit. 

Any ideas please on how far above the conduit the ONT would need to be? Obviously the engineer will fit to suit, but I'd like to plan ahead as I am intending to put some shelves above the ONT afterwards 🙂

Looking at mine, an Adtran 611, I’d say you want a minimum of 3 inches to be comfortable.

A more significant problem might be the fibre optic cable.  Fibre does not do tight bends.  (You lose the light signal).  I suspect you may need more clearance than that for the fibre cable routing.

As you say, you’ll need to discuss it with the engineer on the day.

I've calculated the likely Minimum Bend Radius for the fibre cable and, judging the image posted from other people's installations, then providing that the cable can get down past the trunking there should be more than enough room to accommodate the MBR.

The unknown factors really are (a) with the FT connector in place, how far off the wall would hte cable be and (b) what is the length of the FT plug + strain relief that would project from the socket.  Sadly I no longer have 'spare bits' of such stuff to use as reference 😞
